Due to the spike in local coronavirus cases, the Board has decided to suspend in-person meetings through the end of March. We will be meeting Thursday 7:30AM on Zoom and an email will go out to members with the link prior to the meeting. Our speaker this week will be Maria Bowles from Community Options.
A request from our Public Relations Director Heather Achenbach - please like and share the posts on our club Facebook page!! It's a numbers game. The more people that like and share posts, the more the posts will be visible to community members and the more likely that we can attract new members.
Our club has been slotted to work at the Habitat for Humanity site on Willow Rd on Tuesday May 11th from 9AM - 2PM. We will need ten volunteers and a sign up sheet will be posted shortly. Any questions, ask Sharon Prosinksi.
It's that time of year again ... almost spring ... Trees are sprouting leaf buds and the birds are chirping; and at the club, white envelopes are sprouting 50/50 ticket stubs all the while the spring breeze echoes Bill Beachell’s clarion call to "Sell your tickets!" This year, as is everything else, it's a bit different. We are working with the District to sell 50/50 tickets. It's a larger pot, more prizes, and they are doing much of the work pulling it together. Our only obligation is to sell 500 tickets. The proceeds from our sales go directly to beef up the pot of money in the Foundation that we use for the Giving Budget. In short, it's a win/win. All members have received an email informing them that this year there is a requirement to sell a minimum of 5 tickets. Here are the selling instructions:
Great presentation last week from Sean Jackson, the CEO of the Trenton based non-profit Isles. For those who asked for a copy of his power point, you can see it here. He encourages everyone who is interested to sign up for their newsletter which can be done by going to this link.
March 22nd is World Water Day. More than 2 billion people on this planet don't have access to clean water. Since 2014, the Rotary Foundation has donated more than $51 million in global grants to carry out projects around the world to help people gain access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene. For more information, check out the Rotary Action Page devoted to this topic by clicking here.
Our webmaster, Matt Romanowski, has been attending all the Eventgroove training sessions but I still encourage members to participate in the upcoming Eventgroove Roundtable on March 26th at 4pm via Zoom. This event is less about technical aspects of the platform and more about showcasing different fundraising events that have been successfully held by other Rotary clubs across the country. To register, click HERE.
Kevin Lynch just started advertising his business on our website. Be like Kevin! For information on rates and procedure, go the home page of our website and download the website sponsorship guide found on the right hand side of the page. There will be a limited number of rotating ads and club members will get first crack at the opportunity before it is opened to the general public. Proceeds from ad sales will be used to offset the club's website and communications expenses. Any questions, ask the webmaster Matt Romanoski.
The speakers for our meetings don't magically just show up every week. Cory Wingerter works hard to make sure that our speaker calendar is filled out a few months in advance. If you want to see the list of upcoming speakers, you can either look in the bulletin OR the bottom right hand side of the home page of our website.
In the process of trying to avoid COVID-19, I have instead developed a serious case of Zoom fatigue. Don’t get me wrong – I am grateful to Zoom for providing us a means in which we can keep up our weekly meetings going. But a Zoom meeting is just not the same as meetings in person. It’s harder to establish camaraderie and much harder to attract new members (though we did manage to add a new member who is joining the club this week – welcome Michael Young!).
