Bikes for the World
Fall 2019 was the first year for our club doing a Bikes for the World collection and it was a resounding success. Held in the parking lot of the Blawenburg Reformed Church, we collected 185 bikes and raised almost $2,000 for Bikes for the World.
Since 2005, Bikes for the World has been teaming up with local community organizations on the East Coast to collect bicycles that are then distributed to vetted partner charitable organizations in over 29 countries in the developing world. To date, Bikes for the World has rescued and repurposed almost 150,000 bikes! These unused bikes collecting dust in our garages end up becoming a valuable resource in the developing world by creating jobs, raising income, increasing educational opportunities and allowing access to healthcare.
