The 2020 Flags for Heroes display is up in front of Montgomery High School on Route 601!
The Rotary Club of Montgomery/Rocky Hill announces the return of Flags for Heroes to our community. We all have heroes in our lives, and the COVID 19 pandemic showed us that heroes are everywhere around us - grocery store workers, delivery drivers, postal workers, small delis/restaurants, teachers, caregivers, healthcare workers, first responders and so many more! We are truly fortunate to live in such a selfless and generous community.

Josh Turner, Chair of the Montgomery/Rocky Hill Rotary’s Flags for Heroes describing the project says, “Flags for Heroes gives us the opportunity to recognize the importance of others' selfless contributions and to be thankful for the impact they have made. It is my hope that when people stop and think about what others have done for them, their communities, our nation, and the world, it will inspire them to emulate their heroes, better themselves and make a difference in the lives of others."
This year’s Flags for Heroes Display will grace the front lawn of Montgomery High School from September 1st – 13th. It is our hope that this awe-inspiring display will, once again, lift the spirits of all who pass or visit. Each full-size flag (3 x 5') will be displayed on a 10’ pole and with a medallion including the honoree and sponsor's names, and (optional) the reason for the honor.
A standard flag sponsorship costs $50 and includes the commemorative medallion. A premium flag sponsorship costs $90 and includes the medallion and the actual flag displayed. The medallions and flags (if purchased) will be mailed to sponsors at the conclusion of the event.
We encourage everyone to visit the display and reflect on the heroes who made a positive impact on members of our community.
All proceeds will allow the Rotary Club of Montgomery/Rocky Hill to continue its service to the community and world. During the pandemic, Rotary purchased N95 masks for Montgomery EMS, supplied the Montgomery Food Pantry with ShopRite gift cards for families in need, conceived /operated the very successful Grab 'n Go project, which provided over 3,400 sack lunches and drinks to COVID-19 hospital workers from local food establishments whose business was badly impacted by the pandemic, and even supported an international project dedicated to minimizing the spread of the virus in Africa. Throughout the year Rotary supports many non-profits in the areas of addiction, education, hunger, and homelessness.
The 2018 Flags for Heroes inaugural project resulted in 250 flag sponsorships and, created a stunningly impactful display in front of Montgomery High School along Rte. 601. Not only was the display a wonderful way to honor heroes, it welcomed the wreaths Across America caravan and raised $10,000 for the Warrior Canine Connection, a unique veteran-based service-dog training program to aid in trauma recovery. In December 2019, we honored our first responders and police officers with a flag display to coincide with the 2nd community visit of the Wreaths Across America caravan in front of the Montgomery Upper Middle School. For more information about the 2019 event, please click here.
