Well, the much-maligned year of 2020 is finally over.  Unfortunately, the pandemic and its effects still loom heavy over the start of 2021 but there is light at the end of the tunnel.  I have firm reason to believe that things will be back to quasi-normal by late Spring/early Summer.  I’d prefer it to be quicker, but I think we have to play the hand that is dealt us.
Our primary annual fundraiser, Run With Rotary, is scheduled for May 2nd and will be headed by President-Elect Andy Mozumdar.  Given the uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation, we will likely plan this event as a hybrid event which can be switched to all virtual if needed.  While we won’t raise as much money if it’s all virtual, it still can be a success much like Flags For Heroes.  I am becoming more optimistic about being able to pull off our inaugural FunFest in the Fall.  If the timing is right, I predict people will be flocking to the event because they sorely miss these types of community gatherings.

I’ve mentioned this before but I’ll mention it again.  We still need a small fundraising event between now and Run With Rotary – something that can raise about $5K.  This is important for two reasons.  One, we need to make a strong effort to replenish the funds pulled from our Foundation account towards our Giving Budget. Two, we need some energy going into the new year and a fundraising project typically generate club energy.  So if anyone has any solid ideas, please let me know before our next Board meeting (which is scheduled for Mon 1/11).

I realize that much of 2020 felt like our club was treading water but we can take pride in that we have stayed afloat while avoiding sharks and icebergs.  While I can’t guarantee that 2021 will be smooth sailing, our club can make a whale of an impact on the community and the world.  But it will take all hands on deck so please don’t miss the boat.
